LILAC 2010, 29th-31st March, Strand Hotel Limerick


LNSS are delighted to host LILAC 2010, taking place in the Strand Hotel Limerick from the 29th to the 31st of March. LILAC is the Librarians' Information Literacy Annual Conference (run by the CILIP CSG Information Literacy Group) and is aimed at information professionals from schools, further education, government/health/special libraries and higher education institutions to name but a few disciplines.
Delegates come from over 30 countries worldwide to participate in the information sessions and to share new ideas and innovative teaching techniques in the field of Information Literacy. Themes for this year's conference are: Developing the IL Practitioner, Innovative Practice, Making Connections and IL & Research.
Not that it's all work and no play - social events form a pivotal role in the conference! There will be many opportunities to network, with social events planned in LSAD and Dromoland Castle. Delegates are also encouraged to explore Limerick and its many attractions. Excursions have been organised for those who are interested in learning more about Limerick city after the close of the conference.

LNSS Course: 'Copyright' 19th January 2010

This half-day seminar will focus on topics such as intellectual property, copyright and the internet, and is aimed towards all library staff with an interest in copyright issues. Technical protection systems and obtaining permission for reuse will also feature. Venue: Limerick

LNSS Course: 'Conflict Resolution for Library Staff' 14th January 2010

This workshop will provide participants with an understanding of what happens in conflict situations, information on conflict management styles and possible responses, and skills in resolving conflict with colleagues and library patrons. Venue: Limerick

LNSS Course: 'Skills for the Information Desk' 30th November 2009

This course will cover such topics as information sources (print and electronic), the reference interview, planning searches, referrals to a librarian / subject specialist, communicating with users, dealing with complaints & difficult situations, and reflective practice. Venue: Tralee

LNSS Course: 'Developing and Exploiting e-book collections' 10th November 2009

This course will explore a range of different e-books including commercially-published and free reference works, monographs, textbooks and fiction. Recent trends in e-book publishing will be considered along with collection management and promotion issues. Venue: Limerick

LNSS Course: 'Advanced Internet Searching Skills' 6th November 2009

This course will help participants to discover the most appropriate ways to find relevant materials on the Internet, using appropriate search engines and advanced search strategies. Practical examples will be used and the course will take a 'hands-on' approach to the subject. Venue: Limerick

LNSS Course: 'Marketing Information Literacy' 5th November 2009

This course will focus on how to promote information literacy programmes using professional marketing tools and techniques. Useful for those involved in the development of information literacy suites within their organisation. Venue: Limerick

LNSS Course: 'Metadata' 16th October 2009

This course introduces the concepts and terminology of metadata within the context of library work. It is particularly relevant to those involved in cataloguing, and shows how current thinking on metadata will affect future cataloguing practice. Venue: Limerick
